Before I created my first book cover, before I had any inkling I wanted to help others by becoming a small press publisher ... for as long as I can remember, I wrote. I tackled everything from short stories to bad poetry, finally completing my first novel in the late 80s. It didn't get published. In fact, I never even sent it to a publisher or to an agent or to anyone (other than my mother!) because it ... well, I can't really say it was bad. I don't know because I didn't let anyone else read it! I do know it was a Historical Romance that I wasn't willing to take the time to do the research on. So, it went into a file box with a lot of other bits and pieces of my writing.
It wasn't until just a few years ago that I ran across a friend I hadn't seen since High School. He asked: So what are you doing? I stared blankly, started to tell him I was just being a mom and then it hit me. I was at a point in my life where it was time to start working on my dream. "I write," I boldly told him, even though I hadn't picked up my pen in over a decade. I did then ... and I haven't stopped. |
